Merrill Corporation and Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP Host Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) Panel Discussion
Houston-based event will address best practices for avoiding FCPA issues
St. Paul, Minn. — Merrill Brink International (www.merrillbrink.com), a leading global provider of language solutions for global companies and law firms, will co-host a panel discussion in conjunction with Merrill DataSite®, the industry-leading virtual data room solution, to discuss best practices for uncovering possible corrupt practices during financial and legal pre-M&A due diligence in order to avoid Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) investigations.
The free, by-invitation-only panel discussion will take place on October 25 at the Petroleum Club in Houston, Texas. The law firm of Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP and other M&A professionals who support a variety of industries with FCPA investigations and compliance programs will also take part in the panel.
Panelists will focus on liabilities stemming from international acquisitions, particularly those in high-risk countries. The discussion will cover topics such as identifying possible corrupt practices during pre-M&A due diligence; knowing how to spot red flags that could trigger FCPA sanctions, and developing an action plan when an FCPA issue is found.
The panel discussion features the following FCPA experts:
- Matt Birk – partner, Deloitte Financial Advisory Services LLP
- Paul W. Butler – partner, Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP
- J. Brady Dugan – partner, Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP
- Jay Martin – vice president, chief compliance officer and senior deputy counsel, Baker Hughes
- Nicholas Renter – regional sales director, Merrill DataSite
